September 7, Mystical Endeavour, OCAD U Student Gallery, 285 Dundas Street West, 6-8pm
Prepare to see some dazzling colour combinations! New work featuring paranormal creatures and fantastical landscapes from artists Ted Gudlat, Eunice Luk, Kaley McKean, Nolan Pelletier and Joren Cull is opening Wednesday night with artists in attendance. Show runs until September 29.
Three speakers from Toronto, including poet George Elliot Clarke, have ten minutes each to use randomly selected PowerPoint slides to answer the question, “What’s your take on McLuhan?” Hosted by Michael and Eric McLuhan. Doors open at 7pm. $5.
September 8, Nerd Nite VII: Nerd Nite Toronto Turns 1!, TRANZAC, 292 Brunswick Avenue, 8-11pm
Tuck your pants into your shirt and pull it as high as it’ll go because it’s Nerd Nite! A night of fun as well as informative presentations, such as “Fuel Hacking” – the art of turning your bathtub into a biofuel brewer – and “That Drug Does What?” giving you a thorough look at the fine print of drugs. Free entry and free stuff for the first 100 people!

This annual comic fest is back with artists Matthew Clark, Ed Brisson, Kim Glennie and more! Hourly door prizes and lots to see, touch and buy! $4 or donate a new or gently-used school-appropriate graphic novel to get in for free as donations go to schools around Vancouver.
HALIFAX:
Ana Armengod is the current zinester in residence at the Roberts Street Social Centre’s shed and she has just finished her residency project, a zine about Mexican punk and radical communities. Coming to the shed from Mexico, Armengod is an artist who organized Ladyfest Mexico for many years. The release party will feature vegan Mexican food and two Mexican punk documentaries.
