A reading night loaded with talent all for just $5! Check out readings from Toronto prose poet Danila Botha,  the dark and spooky poetry of Toronto writer Liz Worth (accompanied by a theremin) and an autobiographical slideshow from Rick Trembles.

Jan. 7, “Pink Ink,” The 519 Church Street Community Centre, 519 Church Street, 2 pm

This youth LGBT writing group focuses on drawing out the stories and experiences from queer individuals under the age of 29.

Jan. 8, Sunday Scene: Jordan Tannahill, The Power Plant, 231 Queens Quay West, 2 pm, Free (with gallery admission)

Up-and-coming 23-year-old film and theatre creator Jordan Tannahill offers insight on the ongoing exhibitions at The Power Plant.

Jan. 9, “Rowers Pub Reading Series, With Johnstone, Mcleod, Sol,” Harbord House, 150 Harbord Street, 7:30 pm

On the roster for the year’s Rowers Pub Reading Series is writers Jim Johnstone, Brendan McLeod and Adam Sol. The reading series is open to both established writers as well as those starting out in their literary career.

Jan. 10, Toronto Review of Books Issue Two Party, Poetry Bar, 224 Augusta Avenue, 8 pm

To mark the launch of the Toronto Review of Books’ second issue, the staff and writers are having a launch party for its upcoming “action- and brilliance-packed issue.”

Jan. 14,Ioana Bertrand’s Lumiere Boreale Reception, Toronto Public Library (Deer Park Branch),  40 St. Clair Avenue East, 2:30 pm

The Toronto Public Library’s Deer Park branch is hosting an opening reception for Ioana Bertrand’s Lumiere Boreale, a series of paintings around celebrating Canada’s north.

Jan. 7, Andrea Carvalho’s Made to Measure, Forest City Gallery, 258 Richmond Street, 7 pm

Check out the slick-looking architecturally minded artwork of the Montreal-based artist Andrea Carvalho. The sole exhibition explores the way the human body relates to structure and space.

Jan. 12, “APK Live’s Comedy Night,” APK Live, 340 Wellington Street (third floor), 7 pm, $2

Shut the Front Door Improv and Half A Dino present a night of uncensored improv and sketch comedy at APK Live.
