Indie Events: May 27 – June 2

TORONTO

Friday May 31 – Saturday June 1, 7pm and 2pm, 360 Screenings, secret location, $60/$40

360 Screenings is back with their fifth immersive screening series, on May 31st and June 1st 2013, for a special two-day event, featuring three productions. A fusion of theatre and film, 360 Screenings is the biggest interactive cinematic experience, inviting audiences not only to watch but also become part of the film. The location of the venue is kept secret until 24 hours prior to the screening, and the film itself isn’t revealed until it screens. The audience is encouraged to explore, uncover and interact with the actors and set designs, unfolding clues about the movie while sipping cocktails. Tickets available at http://360screenings.com/nextscreeninginfo

Friday May 31, 9pm, Ten Forward: A Star Trek Trivia Night III, Unlovable, 1415-B Dundas Street West

STAR TREK TRIVIA IN TEAMS, BLOOD WINE, BIG LAFFS, SPACEY DJs. So fun. If I didn’t suck so much at Trek knowledge I would go.

Friday May 31, 11pm, Orgasm Idol, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, 12 Alexander Street, $10 (free if you compete)

Six competitors fake orgasms on stage in front of a live audience and a panel of three sex worker judges assess their performances. After three rounds, the audience will vote and the winner will be crowned Orgasm Idol.  This is so fucking great. Organizer Sherwin Tija warns that if the event doesn’t go as well as planned, it will turn into crowd karaoke instead – which is also great, but fakin’ Os just has…such…salacious possibilities. Sign up, you oughta.

Saturday June 1, 8pm, Fan Fiction the Show: Star Trek, Black Swan Tavern, 154 Danforth, $10

It’s dramatic-and-not-so-dramatic readings of Star Trek-themed fanfiction read by some of Toronto’s funniest comedians. Come and snort-laugh your way to the Borg and back.

Saturday June 1, 10pm, Diana Bailey’s “He Said What?”, Black Swan Tavern, 154 Danforth, $10

“What if Adele’s album 21 was written about you?”
In an evening of stand up, storytelling, and song, Diana Bailey tells her side of a breakup with an anonymous, incredibly successful, and good-looking rock star. Not a punch is pulled. Following Fan Fiction the Show: Star Trek.
