Indie Events: October 11 – 16

Get ready for this week’s indie events: writer Liz Worth launches a new poetry collection in Toronto and technophiles discuss the digital terrain in Vancouver.

TORONTO

October 11, Profile This! Launch of Ancestors and Descendants, Aqsazine Issue #4, Thomas Lounge, Ryerson Student Centre, 44 Gould Street, Toronto, 6pm

Come celebrate the launch of the newest installment of Aqsazine, a zine designed for Muslim women and trans people between the ages of 16 and 35. The night will be punctuated by DJ sets, music acts and interesting discussion panels. Did we mention that it’s completely free?

October 13, Amphetamine Heart Launch, Parts & Labour, 1566 Queen Street West, Toronto, 8:30pm

Get all hopped up on words at the release of former BP editor and frequent contributor Liz Worth’s new collection of poetry, Amphetamine Heart.  There will be music and readings and, to get attendees into the Halloween spirit, freakshow acts.

October 14, Dance Bass: Static Zine Addition, The Magpie, 831 Dundas Street West, Toronto, 10pm

Come on out to the Toronto music zine Static‘s fundraiser and dance party. Come shake your respective booties at the Magpie while offering  a donation can will be passed around to fund the zine.

MONTREAL

October 12, Local Legends Reading Series: Vivek Shraya, Concordia Community Solidarity Co-op Bookstore, 2150 Bishop, 7pm

Toronto-based artist Vivek Shraya will be taking the stage as the latest contributor to the Local Legends Reading Series in Montreal. Shraya will be doing a reading from his first book, God Loves Hair, a collection of 20 short stories.

October 17, What’s Going on Salon, W2 Media Cafe, 111 Hastings Street, Vancouver, 6pm

Check out this monthly salon at the new  W2 Media Cafe at W2 , designed to better define the digital terrain and provide guidance to tech-savvy professionals.
