September 20, Launch Party: The Toronto Review of Books, Massey College, 4 Devonshire Place, 7:30 pm.

Come to the launch party of one of Toronto’s newest publications, spearheaded by Jessican Duffin Wolfe. Make to sure to email ahead of time to RSVP  to [email protected] because space will be limited.


September 20, Book Launch for About Canada: Queer Rights, University of Toronto Art Centre Lounge, University College, 15 King’s College Circle,  5pm

Canadian author, Peter Knegt will be launching his new book about Canada and its treatment of queer rights, both historically and in the future. It is proudly presented in conjunction with the University of Toronto’s Sexual Diversity Studies Program.

September 21, A World of Shorts presents: Sex, Drugs & Rock n’ Roll, National Film Board Mediatheque, 150 John Street, 6pm and 8pm

Come watch a superb line-up of short films, chronicling the raw and infamous lifestyle of the rock star, just on a more local level. Film subjects include the indie band living out all the cliches and the pair of party-going, negligent hipster parents, and the “bromance” of two punks.
September 23, Handmade Music Launch Party, InterAccess, 9 Ossington Avenue, Toronto, 10PM

Come celebrate the release of the MeeBlip Micro, a miniature version of the MeeBlip synthesizer at InterAccess. The night will be peppered with a variety of music acts and workshops will be running to teach guests about how to make music using the MeeBlip. It’s the perfect Friday night for synth-junkies and electronica-lovers.

September 24, Marc Bell, Anders Nilsen & Mark Connery On Stage, The Central Bar, 603 Markham Street, Toronto, 5PM

Proudly presented by Drawn & Quarterly Publishing, Marc Bell, Anders Nilsen and Mark Connery are going together for one night at The Central. The trio will be part of a panel discussion led by Sean Rogers, writer for The Walrus, in promotion of their new works: Bell’s Pure Pajamas, Nilsen’s Big Questions and Connery’s Melamine Car Bomb. The event is free and there will be many books available for purchase.

September 20, Geeks vs. Nerds: Episode 18 Three Men and a Vulcan, The Grawood, Dalhousie Student Union Building, 8pm

It’s time for another installment of Geeks vs. Nerds, a time for geeks and nerds of Halifax to debate the finer points of geek entertainment until the wee hours of the morning. The topic of this episode is Homer Simpson vs. Peter Griffin and Darth Vader vs.
Spock. The creators of Geeks vs. Nerds are not responsible for any damage to calculators or vintage comic books that may occur on the premises.

This exhibit explores the rich history of something so ubiquitous in our society that many probably don’t give it a second thought: wine. A collection of artifacts spanning centuries help to recreate the history of the drink that has helped shaped societies and the world as a whole.

September 23, Photo Exhibit by Jeremy Schruder and Nikol Mikus, KAI Design Studio, 969 St-Timothee, Unit 102, Oxxford Building, 5pm-9pm

Two established photographers come together in one beautiful show at the KAI Design Studio on September 23. The work of Schruder and Mikus will be on display, demonstrating their talent that has been cultivated over many years and through many experiences. Food and drinks will be provided courtesy of KAI Design.

HAMILTON

September 23, Bike to Nanticoke, Hamilton 350 Committee

Hamilton 350 is organizing a 70 kilometer bike ride to Nanticoke to support the shutdown of the coal-fired power station, which is one of the largest creators of green gases in North America. The ride will start on the morning of September 23 and cyclists will return early on September 24, where festivities, entertainment and food await in Gore Park.
