Comic, volume 2, Gang Lion Comics & Moose Lair Production House, chitfunnies.tumblr.com, $5

Printed on bright pink paper and laden with crude drawings and almost-illegible handwriting, Chit Funnies is a bizarre and enjoyable series of short comics for fans of harsher subject matter with a cheeky edge.

Volume Two has three chapters: the first is called “Dancing with the Spud”, the second is called “Spicey [spelling error intentional] Bumpkin Ridin’ A Pumpkin Goes to the Fair”, and the last is called “Birds of a Feather Laugh Together.” Although Chit Funnies is almost impossible to follow at parts and has been shoehorned with jarring dialogue like, “Oooo youuuu whoooo! why in the hell does it smell like french fries in here?…anyway no matter. you believe what I heard…bet you won’t!!! Seems like your old pal shark attack is tryin’ to screw us out of some business!!!”, it has a very specific punk vibe to it that makes all of these flaws excusable. This zine would simply not be the same if everything didn’t feel erratic and clinically insane, making it hard to criticize because it accomplishes what it sets out to do so well. This is not for everybody and will appeal to a very select niche crowd, but for those in that scene, it is a fun (and funny) read. (Richelle Charkot)
