An idiosyncratic newsletter that mixes poetry, politics and public service and speaks of a gentle, peaceful society. Budget cuts, personal reflections and advice such as “The person who tries to sell you something — whether it be an idea or a product — without giving you all the necessary facts is using slippery reasoning to deceive you.” On that note, some of the writing in Alias is a bit overdone, such as Fido Dogstoevski’s Thoughts & Observations. Here Fido makes the claim that computers are putting people out of work, and that it is no longer safe to walk the streets in Canada. The stories are off-putting with their gentle, familiar style. The fun Alias takes with cut- outs and headlines makes up for the occasionally over-wrought opinion piece.
