Judging by the record label, the recording studio (Hotel2Tango), the Montreal postal code and the assorted players (Wooden Stars and Godspeeders among them), I was expecting something more along the lines of a post-industrial, ghost-country blow-out à la Sackville or Carla Bozulich. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised to find Angela Desveaux’s country-ish ditties universally (as in my wife and daughter) acceptable. I thought for a second that this CD might get lost among the indistinguishable sounds of Kathleen Edwards, Sarah Harmer and the offspring of Lucinda Williams, but her songs hung around and demanded further listening. I met their demands. (Terence Dick)
