Dubbed “the alternative zine of the Vis/Lit scene” in Vancouver this is essential reading and essential genre-busting. An impressive number of contributors chronicle various events in the cultural underground of west coast Canada. I love the juxtapositions: from spoken word at the Virgin Megastore to a hybrid mixed media night of silent film and language poetry, this zine is on the cusp of the new creative, a culture without categories, preconceptions or limits. The writing could be less prescriptive and more descriptive, but on the whole, Apollosenses is definitely part of the pantheon of publications chronicling the indie Canadian cultural scene. (HN)
