The cover of Dig #9 is totally cheesy and I really didn’t get the relevance of the mobster in the car with drugs, guns and cash on the hood. Fortunately though, the cover does not beget cheesiness in the interior. This is a strong collection of poetry, by both known writers such as Michelle Berry and Gary Barwin and those lesser known – for now – such as Lindsay Zier-Vogel. But what really shines in Dig #9 is the interview with Kevin Connolly. I can’t say I always liked his work, or what he did in Toronto’s eye magazine as poetry editor, but he provides a stimulating interview that made me reconsider some of my assumptions of him. Editor and interviewer LoveGrove asks the right questions in the interview and makes wise choices on what to include in the rest of the text. She has a keen eye for quality poetry, a rare feat in the zine world. (JP)
