This is probably the Northern star of French DIY publishing in North America… Not just because it’s a pretty barren landscape, but because this is a pretty good magazine. Don’t be fooled by the name, they cover much more than emo. Anything DIY goes, from hardcore to experimental jazz, with some importance given to Montréal artists. The numerous reviews (a full half of the zine) are very in-depth, with each album assigned to a reviewer who has thorough knowledge of the band. There’s a feature on Sonic Youth’s Goodbye 20th Century that situates this album in their discography. The interviewers are also very knowledgeable, although some of them don’t follow up on the bands’ answers. Bands interviewed in this issue: the Dwarves, Tristan Psionic, Chino, L’Altra and Test Tone Channel. Excellent read for punks who want to brush up their French! (FA)
