Herbie Spade, Private Dick, on the case. Is someone trying to blackmail Judge Foster? Is it lady of the night Angel Chicora? Or maybe “Happy” Geoff Bellows who killed three people while robbing a convenience store? What about Stan “the Punk” Walker, or Charlie Black who killed his wife in a domestic quarrel? To find out, get a copy of “Herbie, Not Sam” by Uncle Ray. Here’s a little sample, just to wet your taste buds: “Joe called me back two days later. This time we agreed to meet in the donut shop across from the precinct. Open for twenty-four hours, the place is always busy. If a customer there was not a cop, he has wandered in by mistake. Not that he or she would fail to be served, but he or she would encounter as many stares as though they had inadvertently entered the wrong washroom.” Uncle Ray never quite soars again to such heights of inadvertant poetic loveliness, but this little book has its moments.
