Despite its catchy name and flashy logo, Highway 99 is not quite the road to interesting places (and pieces). As an infotainment source of art commentary as well as rock and roll interviews, it satisfies us content-wise. The Barenaked Ladies interview is an amusing and interesting read. Stylewise though, the question and answer format for the interviews gets pretty tiring, especially when you use it for many articles in the same issue. The intricate design and artful effects used for the graphics that headline each article are among the best I’ve seen. Unfortunately, the rest of the page becomes text-heavy; and with such good visuals, it doesn’t quite balance out. The audio option for the Alice Cooper interviews is a nice touch— that’s what being online is all about! And the links to other sites is appreciated. With a little more effort, this zine could go places.
