Records Of Us begins with the poem Wednesday. Wednesday, the day that falls in the middle of the workweek, appropriately points to the fruitful meeting point of these two artists. The poignant first lines of this poem could (and do) sustain what follows: “I belong to all the times and places/ but this one/ listen/ lets lay our paths out on the city/ overtop everything that is solid…” Maddalena and Madonia share the space of layout and words in this cute 4″ x 5″ zine. Their voices and styles compliment each other beautifully, while also maintaining a distinct individual treatment. I enjoyed the mixture tremendously; their melodic variety is the uniqueness of this book. The collage and the overall look is not terribly new, but the task of forming a perceptually-balanced collaboration and the physical resolution of it is top-notch. (PVP)
