Greg Evason drew some pictures for this issue of JA; simple, but evocative line drawings that I think illustrate nicely what JA is all about. The lines drawn by the best of these poems stand just this side of meaning, suggesting rather than insisting. Quiet allusions to places of the heart. “During my drive I would occasionally take a glance upward through the bug-bespeckled windshield at a sky that held itself over the flat, dry landscape of that region, and it didn’t quite appear to be the sky any more, although I was positive it was a sky.” This is poetry at its best.
