This is the animal issue and it includes stuff about crow tattoos and bat reincarnation and mutant mice and dogphobia and kitty porn (with centrefold!) and “Little Bunny Foucault” and unicorns (of course) and a concert review of Cat Power and movie reviews of nature films from the library and lots of badly reproduced photos and simple cartoons and hand-coloured pictures and the best animal of them all who actually turns out not to be an animal but a kind of people: BEARS. I love bears as much as Una Crow. I love seeing them on Pride Day in their overalls and hard hats. I love their complete and joyous opposition to the generic ideals of GQ-cloned gay boys with hairless bodies and sculpted hair. The bears are one of the greatest subculture going right now and if there isn’t a zone for them, at least the ladies at Mad Cow are giving them props. And I give props back to the ladies at Mad Cow.
