The man with broken spirit gets to the fourth of his five adulatory zine reviews and, searching for something other than adulation, writes, “the only thing that bugs me is the fact that just about everyone out there is a better writer than me.” Now, I may not have read the zines that he reviews, but I can safely say that Anthony Gerace holds his own in the world of self-publishers. He knows and loves his music and will one day write descriptions rather than flattery. I can’t comment on the poetry because the editors of Broken Pencil have given me permission to excuse myself from all poetry zines and phys. ed. classes where I have to take my shirt off. I can say that there can never be enough articles about wanting to talk to girls (though my advice to Anthony is this: talk to girls, the ones who dis you aren’t worth talking to). Finally, keep up with the interviews. They are well done and educational. Who are these bands? Exercises in Breathing? The Heavy Blinkers? The Casket Lottery? I don’t even recognize the bands they are inspired by. Where is this underground, and why wasn’t I invited? Oh, to be out-hipped. This old fart bows out and leaves room for the new guard. Welcome to the bottom, Mr. Gerace. (TD)
