The fourth in Kiss Machine’s new-ish line of graphic novellas, Mendacity is about a woman who, in trying to escape her oppressive home life, ends up entangled in a human smuggling operation that ends in prostitution. As witnessed by the previous sentence, this is no 3-minute pop song, and while dense, Mendacity’s narrative feels like it has been cut short. The best moment is one where our protagonist is depicted being fucked from behind while reading a book titled “On the Heights of Despair.” I don’t really know where she goes from there. (Amy Lam)
