Maybe a bit more ardent than I recall – with a Leonard Peltier update and a Reclaim the Streets Castlegar BC report – but Tides is always a good read and well worth three bucks. This time the poetry stands out, particularly Matt Rader’s The Desert of Split Milk, and the beautifully illustrated poetry chapbook insert, a collaboration between Warren Whyte and Rachel Terry. There’s also an odd story by Hans Jungmann about stomach disorders during first communion. It starts with the memorable line: “It is a little known incident of history that Louis XIV actually puked at the event of his first communion.” (HN)
