This magazine combines art reviews, articles and art itself. The art reviews, or previews, are interesting, sometimes even fascinating. Art in Canada needs all the exposure it can get, and these reviews made me actually want to go and see some of it. The actual art in the magazine, J.J. Lee’s work around anatomical drawings, for example, is also intriguing. The list of artist-run centres across the country offers a variety of locations where quality art is to be found. The only part I didn’t enjoy was the articles, which is a problem for a magazine. One, After the Age of Leisure, actually begins “When I think of leisure historically, I think of Georges Seurat’s painting, Sunday Afternoon on the Island of the Grande Jatte (1884-86).” I realize it’s an art magazine, but still.
