I picked Not Far Enough out of the packed shelves at Who’s Emma because it is a strangely compelling piece of work. A darkish photocopied cover of what looked to me like a huge cunt being held open by two fists (at second glance, probably not that at all). When flipped over to reveal the back cover, a white-on-black omen “we are all prisoners” screams out at you. I’m a sucker for grrrl politics. I bought it. I took it home. I kept picking up Erin’s zine and reading more of the personal is political articles/rants; not just her own, she invited several other women to write articles in her zine. Some are informative, some are a little… shall we say… strong? Hence sentences like, “How long will some feminists go on munching on the greasy bones of little murdered birds?” Articles on Zapatista women, painful menstruation, the anti-topless debate, political correctness and more, much more.
