Kevin Pearce’s short story collection leaves an impression. A sample from the first story reveals a young writer not afraid to, um, provoke: “His first words were: ‘I was raped in the ass by a priest. I wish I was on death row. I hate popsicles.’ ” Kevin’s short book is about keeping a fragile hold on your sanity. A bold mixture of tv references and streaming acts of consciousness, this guy seems determined to propel literature into the 21st century. Like so many young writers, he dispenses with plot and context, secure in his belief that we are all just as nutty as his characters. (HN)
