Reading the letters section of Gavin’s Pervert is a good way to get introduced to some of the greats of indie Canadian comics. Or you could just go ahead and read Gavin’s long tale of lust, love and perversion in Western Europe. This angst-ridden self mockery of the search for zest in sex and travel captures Gavin at his worst and best: obsessed with fucking women wearing nothing but knee-high red socks, obsessed with not being punk enough and missing the action all the while lovingly and somewhat truthfully chronicling his search for sexual expression and freedom. Julie Doucet introduces this comic by saying Gavin is just a bit over-interested in sex. I wouldn’t want anyone I know to start up a relationship with Gavin, but, like Julie, I hope that he remains king of the fuck-ups. Here are two things you should know: Pervert is one of the great Canadian comics and Love Kills.
