The folks at Public Works are out to “interrupt our regular stupor” by organizing culture jams around Vancouver, and then writing them up in this anonymous, free little zine. While we’re all snoozing on the couch, these folks are busy making the streets a little prettier, a little less TV-obsessed, and a lot more interesting. Someone with the code name Chewie traces the roots of culture-jamming right back to the Dadaists of the 1920s. Papa P reveals how to “landscape” a main street – that is, how to lay down sod over a parking spot as a protest against car culture. Johnny Goodeyes contributes a guide to situation construction, which is all about subverting reality in order to shock people into thinking about what’s going on around them. This zine is perfect for anyone who wants to learn how to bust open those zoom media ads that laugh at you whenever you have to take a leak in a public w.c. Comes complete with fake Hudson’s Bay coupons that make the connection between consumerism and poverty. Just try redeeming them! (EPW)
