Steve Requin’s base, mysoginistic sex-obsessed comics aren’t usually my cup of tea, but the special insert in this one saves it for me. Whose comics could possibly be more different than the work of this “typical male”? Well, Leanne Franson’s bi-dyke comics, of course, and Steve parodies her “Liliane” comics perfectly here, right down to the format, the green cover and the drawing style. Called “The Day I Met Leanne,” it’s a Liliane-style twenty-pager about a meeting between these opposites at a local comic launch. It’s more than worth the price of this whole zine. Through it all, Steve remains genuinely confused as to why Leanne wouldn’t want to trade her newest Liliane for the newest Requin Roll – needless to say, he gets what he asks for, in the form of a deserved tongue-lashing of radical feminist proportions. Highly entertaining, although the rest of the comic, unless you’re about thirteen, isn’t. (What’s with this new trend of pathetic guys throwing in their favourite downloaded cyberporn into their zines, anyway? Some kind of anti-bravado, like “I never get laid, but look at this!”? Geez.)
