This collection of self-proclaimed “underground writing” has its ups and downs, as one might expect. My favourite is the shortest by Cliff Snyder, laid out over a completely unrelated, but impressive, photo by Ms. Heslop. I also like Rachel Sohn’s Anticipation (“playing at being grown up/ vicariously as though/ she knows/ she can only learn/ by watching.”). Too many of the poems, though, are about unfocussed angst and vague longings that come across more as self-indulgent than literary. There’s also an Ani Difranco concert review, and book and record reviews that are mostly surprisingly mainstream. The zine also constantly pushes a chain of Toronto record stores, which, since it seems to have taken out a back cover ad, makes me wonder a bit. (KR)
