This latest installment of Sunburn comes with a great insert guide for zine publishers and people looking for indie distribution which appears to be an updated version. The art in here is a rabid cross-section of eclectic comics from Robert Halstead’s “The Fly” (which is well reproduced considering the original seems to be done in pencil) to a whole lotta Brad Yung, some Billy Mavreas. The layout is perfection at worst, and each issue of Sunburn comes with “Zinehead” which is the essential toy for anyone wanting to get zines out to people, this thing knows all. The credit page is another key feature which gives you contact info for fifteen artists from both Canada and the USA. The review page at the back gives a kind of recent history of Sunburn from both print and online publications. Sunburn is always a steal at three bucks. It’s a great way to get to know the comic artists of the underground. It’s sort of like Much Music’s dance mix CD series. Except you have to read. “Exquisite Corpse” by Mary Knott (words) and Beppi (art) is sickly sweet, disturbing fun. Amongst the buried and clasping fists from the earth reads: (“mild white hands are so tender scratching at the dirt where you are buried”). This piece alone is worth the price of admission. (NGM)
