Temporary tells the tale of a botched robbery. A po-faced scoundrel comes under the interrogation of a shoddy cop. A saucy blonde trollop does the dirty work, and almost pays the ultimate price. And so on. This is part two of an anthology, and it’s your basic police story blown to heck. There’s nothing especially remarkable about either the drawings or the captions, but creators Damon Hurd and Rick Smith meld Temporary with an intangible style and a sly glance to the past, and that makes it an engaging read. It reeks of classic cop comics from the days of yore, yet retains the unmistakable hue of modern day hipster fare. This isn’t an easy feat to pull off, but Hurd and Smith turn the trick like it ain’t no thing. Admittedly, I found the story a smidge confusing at times, but Temporary is the type of narrative that will make you seek out the back issues. (Cameron Gordon)
