The poems and short prose are presented here in a truly original manner. It is a thinly strung together “story” of a translator, the poems he (she?) is working on and the love for someone only seen once (maybe imagined), all told through letters. As the “translator” becomes more involved with the poems being worked on, and the mystery behind his secret love builds, the lines between the reality and the imaginary became hard to find; the real past and the imagined present become blurred. This fictional tale is a creative way for Stephen to present his simple, yet emotive poetry and his delicate prose. This is romance without the ridiculous sentiment. This is the kind of madness induced by a labour of love. An engaging read. (KJ)
