The Canadian Rockhound

Now this is slick. Winter ’97 marks the premiere issue of this, the first online newsletter for Canadian rockhounds, and its an all-round class act, even though it isn’t likely to appeal to a broad range of people. The site is a joy to look at, with a simple and elegant layout which functions beautifully. The feature stories of this issue have names which are less than gripping to a non-rockhound: witness “The Pegmatite Minerals of BernicLake” or “Mesabi – A tale of red jasper”. However, the stories are very well-written, clearly presenting a great deal of information in a fairly short space. In addition to the features, this issue presents the beginning of what will presumably be a regular section examining the minerals of Canada. There is also a selection of links to other rock-type sites and a list of upcoming shows and symposia. Into rocks? Check this one out. You’ll like it.
