When I say this thing is sweet and touching, I don’t mean it with even a trace of spite or irony. A long poem, made up of several smaller sections, The Life of Duck reveals the life story of a woman named Duck, telling what needs to be told, and skillfully letting up just where it should. In one way it’s a charming lesbian love story, in another way it’s a quiet life triumphing gently. Either way, the poem stands firm, nearly prose-like, and delivers the goods. (HC)
