What’s really nice about The Metro WORD, Toronto’s Black Culture magazine is the variety of stuff they cover. Outstanding arts coverage, everything from club culture to obscure black cinema. WORD also profiles accomplished arts personalities; authors like Lisa Jones and Richardo Keens-Douglas, media types like the president of Vision TV, Fil Fraser who is the first Black Canadian to head a major national television network and Chuck D’s interview rounds things out nicely. Another article focused its critical discussion on the uneven roles and inaccurate representations of Black life in television land. All this is shored up with a bit of sports, some ponderous words about New York and listings galore of what’s on and of interest in Toronto.
