Subject line: Call for submissions.
What: A zine for queer and trans scientists and science enthusiasts, who don’t or can’t find space in the ivory tower.
Pay: Not listed.
Submissions: Stories about the struggle of being a queer and/trans science worker. Some questions to consider: What parts of working as a queer scientist or science knowledge worker make you feel invisible, unseen, and disconnected from your peers? In what ways can we seek each other out via invisible attraction across space and time? What holds your centre and brings you back in orbit on days when you feel adrift in the vacuum of positive and empowering queer + trans scientific representation?

Prize: 1st place: €200; 2nd place: €100 (both win chapbook publication and 20 complimentary copies)

What: A feminist bicycle science fiction series
Pay: Contributors will be paid at least $30 per story, plus 10 contributor copies per printing. How much they’re paid depends on how successful the Kickstarter campaign is.
Submissions: Trans and non-binary writers writing trans and non-binary characters (500 to 8,000 words); black-and-white illustrations or comics are also welcome. All stories must contain bicycles.
Deadline: November 15, 2018
What: Short story and flash fiction anthology by authors of Asian heritage
Pay: Contributors are paid $40 CAD per short story or $20 CAD per flash fiction and an e-book contributor’s copy.
Submissions: Construct a story about an Asian main character set in an immersive alternate past, present or future. Fill this reality with hints of reality, magic, or fantastical but believable science. If you are interested in writing about a motorized caravan train across the Silk Road, or sages searching for magical apprentices in the South China Sea, now is your chance. We also like good wuxia swordplay and other martial arts as much as we enjoy postcolonial politics and other contemporary topics. Draw on your heritage and transport us to a different world.
