Back in 2008, Brainscan and Stolen Sharpie Revolution creator Alex Wrekk proposed an International Zine Month to the users of We Make Zines. Choosing the month of July to tie into the annual 24-hour zine challenge, and after an enthusiastic response, the month has been celebrated for the past few years through a variety of zine events.
This month, in celebration of zines and their creators, we will be running profiles of zine creators and will track some of the zine events that will take place as a nod to International Zine Month.
The Facebook page dedicated to this special month already lists a number of events (such as Portland Zine Symposium‘s 24-Hour Zine Challenge and other 24-Hour Zine Thing events) and is encouraging creators to use this month as inspiration to make new issues of their zines.
In addition, zinester librarians are touring the States (with a stop in Toronto) throughout July on the Orderly Disorder Tour, and tonight the Robert Street Social Centre is hosting a zine release party for their resident zinester Cheyenne Hohman.
