Bird and Moon

Rosemary Mosco’s “Bird and Moon” is a short graphic novella of sorts: it tells a dramatic story through gorgeous pen and ink illustrations. But is the story I read in her zine, the same tale the author had originally intended to tell? A bird falls in love with the moon and goes on a magical journey-the adventure of a lifetime … It is too good to be true, romantic and tragic, and by morning, normal life resumes and Mosco’s lyrical illustrations, the delightful line drawings that gave birth to a bird, a moon, a city by a large lake … fade into obscurity. Mosco brings her characters to life with a few decisive strokes of the pen, engaging the reader’s eyes, mind, and soul. “To help city birds,” the author urges, in the book’s end pages, click through www.flap.org.
