In Merritt, where the kids are angry, the comics are good and the articles are short, it seems almost an anathema to either celebrate the first issue of Bleek’s new zine or anticipate subsequent issues. After all, wasted youth aren’t known for seeing things through. But if there were to be other issues, one would have to make the following conclusions about this issue, not wasted at all: 1) good comics are guaranteed; Krank shaft-Private Eye speaks to me. 2) Stereolab is really big in zines right now 3) the Chupacabra or “Mexican goat sucker” is one bad fucker. 4) Bleek is probably right in noting that the current generation of teens is taking a lot of shit but not doing all that much wrong. In fact, teens right now don’t seem that bad. It’s the eleven-year-olds that scare me. Talk about wasted youth. If only every kid’s world view included anti-humour, anti-pathos, alien/vampire stuff, political advocacy and good taste in music. Don’t waste your youth. Write to Bleek.
