SLUR

This zine is a blend of the college-radio music zine and the bunch-o-guys sociopersonal ramble zine, a mixture that seems to attract a fair amount of bar and record company ads in Edmonton. Everyone else in Edmonton should start a zine like this and make easy cash. Not that Slur is sloppy or opportunistic. It is a good, thick packet of band interviews (Pal Joey, Kissing Ophelia and a Vancouver group called Industrial Circuitry, who claim Test Dept., Laibach and Wagner among their influences…), reviews, and rants on Ralph Klein, anarchy, cable companies and love as an economic stimulus. Best line in the latter: Whoever invented children knew what they were doing. (Maybe on a macro-economic level on a micro level, production is often more poorly planned.)

zine / publisher: Slur Society for Alternative Music and Culture / main creators: Dave Johnston, Rob LIghtfoot, Brent Oliver, a. buhr, Colleen Connolly, Aidan Rowe and others / Free around Edmonton, lord knows anywhere else / Room 362-21, 10405 Jasper Ave
