The essays in By the Way are aimed at dissecting social policy and holding it up, severed, exposed, but curiously intact. Past topics have included the construction of an imposing fence, the career of Woody Allen and the despair of youth. Glenn is getting hard-edged, he’s gone to biweekly, he’s publishing articles more critical and less gentle. However, they are still by society’s standards fairly relaxed and amusing diatribes. My recommendation is the article on New Bohemianism (#39) that comes very close to aptly describing exactly the way many people in the twenty-thirty year old range live their lives. By the Way is a valuable contribution to any consideration of urban Canadian living.
