Hey! The next event we’ll be sponsoring is an insanely good time and one that we can personally endorse based on previous attendance. Fan Fiction The Show is a Toronto-based series run by local comedian Adam Ward. Essentially it features a variety of funny people – comedians, improv folks, actors and musicians – to perform live readings/renditions of fan fiction based on various pop-cultural works. Past installments have featured fanfic from the James Bond, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter and Star Wars universes. Of course, the very nature of fanfic is that the author often has the license to do whatever they want with the characters, and when these types of stories are read live, it leads to hysterical results. Darth Vader hangs out with Smurfs. Draco Malfoy become a Chemical Romance-loving goth. And so on. The nights feature performers such as improv duo The Sushi Boys, the sketch troupe Rulers of the Universe and The Weaker Vessels, whose rendition of the infamous “worst fanfic of all time” My Immortal made us laugh so hard that we wept AND nearly barfed.
One can only imagine what will occur when the realms of Middle Earth are brought into this wild mixture. We can assure that good times will be guaranteed. We’ll be there with free back issues, flyers and other swag – come say hi!
