Indie Events: April 23rd – 29th

HALIFAX

Tuesday, April 24th, April Comic Jam, Robert Street Social Centre, 5684 Roberts St., 7pm-11pm
It’s that time of the month again…comic making time! Bring your pens and pencils, and create group comics with a bunch of artists. Blank paper and art fuel in the form of tea, coffee and baked goods will be provided. Artists of all skill levels are encouraged to work with each other to create amazing (and often bizarre) comic stories. $2 suggested donation goes towards keeping the zine library awesome.

TORONTO

Tuesday, April 24, Toronto Comic Jam, The Cameron House, 408 Queen St. W., 7:30pm-12:30pm.

Bring your pens and crayons and prepare for a night of comic collaboration. Participants pass around panels and add to each others’ ideas.

Wednesday April 25, Wonder Women IV, The Central, 603 Markham St., 7pm -10pm.
Showcasing stories and experiences through music and spoken word, four talented women will be raising awareness for charities that aid women and children trying to rebuild their lives from the aftermath of domestic abuse.

Saturday April 28, Dip and Tie-Dye Stuff ‘n Such Workshop, XPACE Cultural Centre, 58 Ossington Ave., 1pm – 5pm
Bring any clothing item you would like to dye, and you will be provided with coloured dyes, bleach, rubber gloves, spray bottles and elastic bands for all your infinite tie-dyeing needs!

ST CATHERINES

Friday April 27 – Sunday April 29, In the Soil Arts Festival, various locations and times.

The In the Soil Arts Festival is an explosion of creativity in various locations in downtown St. Catharines. Early Bird Festival Passes (available until April 26th) are $20 and regular Festival Passes are $25.

HAMILTON

Wednesday April 25, 1st Ever Art Show, North Hamilton Community Health Centre, 438 Hughson St. N., 4:40pm – 7:30pm

Inspired by the Mind over Mood group, North Hamilton Community Health Centre presents their First Ever Art Show with community artists showing their work for the first time. Displays include quilts, jewelry, India Ink, paintings, sculptures and many more. Light refreshments served from 5-7pm

VANCOUVER

Saturday April 28, Year of the Bike Kick-Off Party, Woodwards Atrium, 111 W Hastings, 1pm – 4pm
Celebrate the “Year of the Bike” with the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition! Bring your bike for family-friendly bike fun. There will be a bike rodeo, bike decorating, face painting, a unicycle station, prizes, a bike mechanic and much more!
Cocktail reception to follow at 5pm. Come dressed a bit fancy and get your picture taken at the Momentum Magazine photo booth.

Until May 31, Chatwilh: The Craft and Culture of the Squamish, Vancouver Maritime Museum, 1905 Ogden, Vanier Park.
An exhibit which examines the ancient crafts, traditions, and uniquely adapted watercraft of the Squamish Nation.
