It’s live literary bloodshed, featuring four rounds with two writers each, facing off with opposing ideas for 7 minutes. The audience picks the winner, with the prize money going to a charity of the winner’s choice. D’awww. This week features Arianne Schaffer vs. Roger Bainbridgem Brie Watson vs. Jordan Sowumni, Nick Flanagan vs. Bob Kerr and Spencer Gordon vs. Andrew Kaufmann.

Thursday December 20, 9pm, Darkest Before Dawn, UNIT 2, 163 Sterling Road
Addressing the emotional reaction to the growing darkness that reaches its peak on the winter solstice, performance artists and dancers will be collaborating with ambient noise and drone musicians to create dark, vulnerable and volatile work.
Featuring: Cassandra Witteman & Daci-L, Annie Wong, Dorian Lebreux, Filip Endula, Alex Wimbush, Victor Cirone, Zoë Alexis-Abrams and Mandelbrut.
Friday December 21, 8:30pm, Mayan Apocalypse Party, The Hideout, 484 Queen Street West, $20
Yup, it’s an end-o’-the-world party, as scheduled by the Mayan calendar. Featuring an apocalyptic burlesque show, music and BLOOD SACRIFICE (to Canadian Blood Services) plus a bunch of other stuff, including zombie stuff. Party on, deadites!

Featuring loads of lovely readers all afternoon, including Farzana Doctor, Vivek Shraya, S. Bear Bergman, Ryan Kerr and many others. Plus signings!
MONTREAL
Come celebrate the launch of the new library at the collective space. Includes a couple hundred books and piles of zines. Each month the library will put out a reading list, the first of which you can read here.
HALIFAX
This night’s theme – bring the WORST poem you’ve ever written. Featuring Halifax’s Poet Laureate Tanya Davis and some guy named Geordie reading from his high school diary. Rave on.
