Indie Events: July 2 – July 8

TORONTO

Wednesday July 3, 10am – 6pm, International Zine Month, OCAD Zine Library, Learning Zone, 122 St. Patrick Street, free

Kick off International Zine Month in style with the OCAD zine library. All day on Wednesday, you can pop by and contribute to a collaborative zine, learn bookbinding techniques, learn about the many, many zines in the library’s collection, and chat with other zinesters. All welcome!

Saturday July 6, 7pm, Mag/a/Zine Meetup, Tranzac Club, 292 Bruinswick, free

More great Zine Month fun with the folks from Gutterbird, who have organized readings, music and invited a host of other zine-friendly publications to bring their wares for sale. Come party it up with your fellow creators and zine enthusiasts.

Saturday July 6, 8pm, Fan Fiction: The Show, Sailor Moon Edition, Black Swan Comedy, 154 Danforth, $10

This month’s edition features the usual hilarious fan-generated fiction readings by great comedians like the Weaker Vessels. However, this time there’s an added twist – there’s an entire cast of characters BECOMING Sailor Moon, including Toby Proctor, who voiced Tuxedo Mask in the original cartoon (yes, seriously.) Someone dress up as Luna the Cat, for the love of God.

Saturday July 6, 9:30pm, Toronto Queer Slowdance: Beach Blanket Edition, Dovercourt House, 805 Dovercourt Rd., $10

Grab those dance cards and keep your eye out for your next possible sweetheart at this excellent ongoing event. Don’t be shy – you’ll find a partner to dance with if you want one! Those summer nights…

VANCOUVER

Sunday July 7, 7pm, Dr. Sketchy’s Vancouver: Rags to Riches, Wallflower, 2420 Main Street, $10

This week’s installment of the sexy, inclusive art features Connie Cahoots. Don’t miss it.
