Mark Reale curates. Featuring Collin Gribbons on “Street Golf: The Beautiful Game,” Zemina Meghji will discuss humans and robots and Adil Dhalla will lecture about sleepovers at the office.

Tuesday July 9, 8pm, ChiSeries Toronto Presents: Imaginarium 2013 launch and ChiZine’s 5th Birthday, Augusta House, 152 Augusta

The brilliant Toronto-based publisher of weird, horrific and speculative fiction ChiZine has accomplished a lot in five years of existence. Come celebrate with them on Tuesday with some short readings, music, food n’ booze, and check out the 2013 installment of Imaginarium: The Best Canadian Speculative Writing, featuring a piece by our own associate fiction editor A.G. Pasquella!

Wednesday July 10th, 6:30pm, Brockton Writer’s Series: Queer Night, Full of Beans Coffee House and Roastery, 1348 Dundas Street West, PWYC ($3-$5)

Networking begins at 6:30 with guest Banoo Zan who will talk about “Poetry, Politics and Performance: writing and getting your poetry published.” Followed by readings by Lydia Perovic, Brian Francis, Rose Cullis and Shani Mootoo!

We don’t usually list music shows in this here piece but the rad girl/grrl group Patti Cake is launching a zine at this show! So rad.

Sunday July 14, 8pm, Toronto Poetry Slam feat. Andre Prefontaine, The Drake Hotel, 1150 Queen St. West, $5, all-ages

Hosted by Cathy Petch. With open mic and special guest Andre Prefontaine from Calgary (he’s the reigning underground slam champion of Canada, dontcha know!)

OTTAWA

Tuesday July 9, 8pm, ChiSeries Ottawa Presents: Tanya Huff, Eric Choi and Hayden Trenholm, Maxwell’s Bistro and Nightclub, 340 Elgin Street

The Ottawa arm of the ChiZine Reading Series continues with three great authors, including Ottawa’s own Hayden Trenholm.
