MEET SHEILA SAMPATH
Hyperspeed Talk:
Zines and Education
Sheila is one of those insanely talented individuals who manages to deftly balance a number of projects. Currently she is editorial director AND art director of Shameless Magazine, a fantastic grassroots publication for young women and trans youth that boasts an ethos grounded in anti-oppression, diversity and social justice. Sheila also runs her own company, acting as Principal and Creative director of The Public. It’s an activist design studio that provides graphic design, creative campaigning and strategic branding services for unions, non-profit and social justice organizations looking to convey an empowering, intellectually curious and critically-engaged message.
Sheila also teaches in the Faculty of Design at OCAD University, and has a background in community activism and organization too, as a former Chair of the Board of Directors at the Toronto Rape Crisis Centre/Multi-cultural Women Against Rape.
In her Symposium talk, Sheila will discuss how people can use zines and zine-making in libraries and schools as tools for education and empowerment.
We are really excited to have someone as accomplished (and nice) as Sheila on board for the Symposium this year to share her knowledge as a creative professional, educator and activist. Buy a Symposium ticket and join us to hear Sheila and our other presenters for a great day of knowledge-sharing and inspiration.
