The newest Babcia paper cut comic traces 5th century migration

Marta Chudolinska’s long-running paper-cut comic Babcia is a true staple of Broken Pencil’s quarterly comics spread. Using precise cuts and layering, Chudolinska subtly use the textures and weaves of different paper stocks to give motion and meaning to each snapshot. Read together, the series offers a fractured but completist storytelling unlike any other.

Take some time with Issue 85’s addition — this stunning paper-cut map depicting 5th century migration and settlement in the North European Plain, including modern day Poland.
