The subtitle of this glossy but obviously independent mag is Leather-Fetish-Consensual S&M so that should give you a fair idea of the subject matter we are dealing with. The fact is, regardless of its rather expensive production values, this is a magazine that would really only appeal to S&M/Fetish/Leather practitioners. That is not to say that it doesn’t have some interesting things in it, although the majority of the articles only partially explored the issues they purported to discuss. Topics like S&M and the Native Spirit by Sheila Wahsquonaikezhik (Ms. Leather Toronto 1994)and S&M Fetish and the Media with articles by Jay Wagner promise a lot but never quite deliver; maybe detailed in-depth writing is too much to ask for, but, after all, shouldn’t these be the expert opinions on the subject? The listings, on the other hand, are extensive and cover the goings-on of clubs, associations etc. all over Canada and the world. A good portion of the magazine is occupied with these listings: Perhaps the subject matter of Boudoir Noir is not as esoteric as it would seem?
