If you are a seasoned veteran of Brin’s talented, gentle, truly Canadian kind of humour, then you will enjoy if not love #23, a collection of two well told, well illustrated and well humanized stories that are so gentle in their out-look they seem almost like children’s stories, which, in retrospect, I guess they are. However, if you have not had the good fortune to discover Bubonix and Brin, then get yourself a copy of his Bubonix Classix, a compendium of some of the best work from the previous twenty or so issues. There are so many great moments in Classix (#2), you can literally watch Brin’s mind moving from Canadian pop culture (Canadian Rock N Roll History presents: The Friendly Giant Band) to Canadian History (Canadian History Action Figures Presents: Louis Riel) to Canadian architecture (a mock floor-plan of the Parliament including one room set aside for Bobby Orr Memorabilia). If this guy was in charge of our heritage, Quebec wouldn’t want to separate, our country wouldn’t be the place where McDonalds tries out new product and Bubonix would be required reading, kindergarten to P.H.D.
