zine review:
Die Active: Young Blood
Okay, I’m impressed. When you give me a thick, laminated zine complete with art, poetry, short fiction, and a music CD, I’m bound to give you the benefit of the doubt and give you my fullest attention. And that’s exactly what this zine does. The artwork is diverse and interesting. There are no two drawings alike, no two drawings saying the same thing. There’s a good sampling to appease even the most critical (like me), and their quality keeps, despite the black-and-white reprinting. The poetry ranges from simple to confusing to downright heartbreaking. The fiction is short and sweet, somewhat bizarre, and it lingers in the mind. The pieces they chose seem to mesh well. The music is diverse enough to keep you interested and doesn’t go over the top. All in all, this zine is definitely worth a peruse. (Tara Blackmore)
