Tim, a 17-year-old indie music fan, waxes enthusiastic about collegesque bands from Stereolab to Menswear, spacey music being a favourite. The rest of his enthusiasms are less predictable, and occasionally troubling. He reprints his A+ school paper on Islamic fundamentalism (which could have been written by the U.S. state department), profiles local thrift stores, and tells us about his membership in a high-school (mock?) communist party. If Tim is a communist, though, he has to get the hang of the working class, which I suppose is hard to do in his suburban neighborhood: The low point of the zine is his rant against “trailer park people,” an unmitigated piece of snobbery. Otherwise, though, a decent first effort.
