Kate’s zine is filled with the stuff Kate loves, hates and loves to hate. She’s not even afraid to be down-right grouchy. I identified heartily with “The Ultimate Joys of Being In a Bad Mood” and “The Ultimate Bad Mood Test”. I truly laughed my ass off at the four easy steps to “Mastering the Art of Idle Conversation”, especially the advice that if steps #1-3 all fail, you should “kick their legs out from under them and run fast away.” The cover accuses the reader? herself? of “confusing yourself and everyone around you.” I didn’t find MNF all that confusing, except perhaps the messy layout—and cut and paste is supposed to be messy! Oh, and get this: all her thanks to her friends and contributors look like they were scribbled in wherever she could find white space. But who cares? That’s what’s great about zine-land. Confusion is good. Messy is original. Most importantly, Kate, you don’t need to apologize for being opinionated or “negative.” I say: Keep up the mega-attitude, that’s what makes MNF so fun to read, and send me more of your awesome zines.
